Frequently Asked Questions

General

What is Gold Price Stack?

Gold Price Stack is an iOS app for tracking gold and silver prices, managing a vault of your physical holdings, and setting price alerts — all in your local currency. It's designed to give you a clear, trustworthy answer to "What's gold worth right now?" without the complexity of a trading platform.

Who is this app for?

Anyone interested in gold or silver prices — whether you're a casual saver, a physical gold buyer, someone in a country with a volatile currency, or just curious during a news cycle. You don't need any finance knowledge to use it.

Is this a trading app?

No. You cannot buy or sell metals through the app. It shows spot prices and helps you keep track of what you already own.

What metals does the app track?

Gold and silver. Free users see gold prices. Premium subscribers also get silver prices and the gold-to-silver ratio.

What devices are supported?

iPhone and iPad running iOS 17 or later.

Prices & Data

Where do the prices come from?

Prices are sourced from market data providers and reflect the current spot price for gold and silver in USD, then converted to your chosen currency using live exchange rates.

How often are prices updated?

Prices update every 20 minutes during market hours. The app always shows a timestamp so you know how fresh the data is.

Why don't prices update on weekends?

Precious metals markets are closed on Saturday and Sunday. The app displays the last available price from Friday.

What currencies are supported?

12 currencies, including USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CHF, CNY, INR, CAD, AUD, and HKD. You choose a primary currency when you first open the app. Premium subscribers can add a secondary currency to see prices in two currencies at once.

Can I see prices per gram instead of per ounce?

Yes. You can switch between troy ounce, gram, and kilogram in Settings.

What is the gold-to-silver ratio?

It's how many ounces of silver it takes to buy one ounce of gold. For example, a ratio of 90 means gold is 90 times more expensive than silver. Some people use this number to decide whether gold or silver is the better value. This feature is available with Premium.

What chart timeframes are available?

Free users can view a 1-month chart. Premium subscribers unlock 3-month, 1-year, and 5-year charts.

Can I interact with the charts?

Yes. Drag your finger across the chart to see the exact price on any given date.

The app shows a different price than another source.

Small differences between sources are normal. Spot prices vary depending on the data provider and update timing. Dealer and retail prices also typically differ from the spot price.

Price Alerts

What are price alerts?

Push notifications that tell you when gold or silver reaches a price you care about. You can set alerts for when a price goes above or below a target, or when it changes by a certain percentage.

How do alerts work?

Set your conditions in the app. When the app detects that your condition is met, you will receive a push notification on your device. After an alert triggers, it is automatically disabled so you don't get repeated notifications.

Are alerts guaranteed to be delivered?

No. Alerts are sent on a best-effort basis via Apple Push Notifications. Delivery depends on network connectivity, device settings, and Apple's notification service. Don't rely on alerts for time-sensitive decisions.

I'm not receiving alert notifications.

Make sure notifications are enabled for Gold Price Stack in your device's Settings > Notifications. Also check that the alert is still active in the app — alerts are automatically disabled after they trigger.

Are price alerts a Premium feature?

Yes.

Vault (Portfolio)

What is the Vault?

The Vault is where you track your physical gold and silver. Add your coins, bars, jewelry, and other items to see what they're worth at today's prices.

How many items can I add?

Free users can store up to 2 items. Premium subscribers can add unlimited items.

What details can I track for each item?

Metal type, product type (coin, bar, round, jewelry, other), weight, purity, purchase price, purchase date, notes, and a photo (Premium).

Does the app have preset coins and bars?

Yes. When adding a coin, you can choose from popular options like the American Eagle, Canadian Maple Leaf, Krugerrand, Austrian Philharmonic, and more — for both gold and silver. The weight and purity are pre-filled for you.

What purity options are available?

For bullion: 0.9999, 0.999, 0.9167, 0.900, or a custom value. For jewelry: 24k, 22k, 18k, 14k, and 10k gold; Fine, Britannia, Sterling, and Coin silver.

How is melt value calculated?

Melt value = current spot price x weight x purity. It represents what the raw metal content is worth at today's price — not the collectible or numismatic premium.

Can I record when I sell an item?

Yes. Mark any item as sold and record the sale price, date, currency, and notes. Sold items can be shown or hidden in the list.

Can I add photos of my items?

Yes, with Premium. You can take a photo or choose one from your library.

Can I export my vault data?

Premium subscribers can export in two formats:

Does the app sync across devices?

Yes. Your vault data syncs automatically via iCloud across all devices signed into the same Apple ID. There is nothing to set up.

What if I'm not signed into iCloud?

Your data is stored locally on your device. If you sign into iCloud later, syncing will begin automatically.

My vault items aren't syncing between devices.

Make sure both devices are signed into the same Apple ID with iCloud enabled. Sync may take a few moments — try opening the app on both devices while connected to the internet.

Widget

Is there a home screen widget?

Yes. Small and medium widgets are available, showing the current gold price on your home screen. Premium subscribers also see silver prices and the gold-to-silver ratio.

How often does the widget update?

The widget updates alongside the app's regular price refresh cycle — roughly every 20 minutes during market hours.

Premium

What do I get with Premium?
Can I try the app before subscribing?

Yes — the free version includes gold prices, a 1-month chart, and up to 2 vault items. Use it as long as you like, and upgrade to Premium whenever you're ready for more.

What subscription plans are available?

Monthly and yearly. The yearly plan saves you 50%.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Go to Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions on your device. Your premium features remain active until the end of the current billing period.

How do I restore my purchase after reinstalling?

In most cases, your subscription is restored automatically when you sign in with the same Apple ID. If it doesn't, open the Premium purchase screen and tap "Restore Purchase".

Privacy & Security

Can I lock my Vault?

Yes. Premium subscribers can enable Vault Lock in Settings, which protects the vault with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode.

Does the app collect my personal data?

No. There are no analytics, no ads, and no tracking. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Can I delete all my data?

Yes. Go to Settings > Delete My Vault to remove all holdings from your device and iCloud. You can also simply delete the app to remove all local data.

Troubleshooting

Prices aren't updating.

Check the timestamp on the price screen. If data seems stale, make sure you have an internet connection and try reopening the app. Prices don't update on weekends.

The price shows a dash (–) instead of a number.

This means the app hasn't been able to fetch prices yet. Make sure you're connected to the internet and reopen the app.
